Plelauff, France FAQs
What is an average program day like? What's the schedule?
The course is a very intense, challenging and fun experience. Classes generally begin at 9:00 and run until 4:45 except on days when teaching practice is scheduled in the evenings. They are held Monday through Friday. During the first two weeks, grammar and theory are discussed. The next two weeks are spent doing supervised lesson planning, and teacher practice. The initial orientation is usually on Sunday evening at 6:00 p.m prior to the course start date. The course schedule for the week will be provided on Monday morning.
How many students enroll in the course each month?
On average we have about fourteen students enrolled in the program each month; some months the numbers are lower. Most of the participants are American, British, Canadian or Australian, although we do accept non-native speakers of English who have a very high proficiency in the language. Trainees are typically between the ages of 22 and 50 years old but it is not uncommon to have trainees in their 60’s and 70’s.
What are the students like with whom I’ll be doing my teaching practice?
Our practice students are local adults and children. They usually stay on from course to course and form good relationships with TEFL trainees and staff.
How is the job market in France? Will I have trouble finding employment?
The job market in France is growing at the moment but still quite competitive. While there are positions available in most major cities in France, the vast majority of employment is found in Paris. Along with schools teaching the youth of France many language schools cater to the business community. If you are diligent and open to a variety of locations your job search will be more fruitful.
Does TEFL International offer any sort of flight discounts to France?
While TEFL International is not involved directly with flights and travel arrangements we would like to recommend Student Universe for all of your travel needs. They offer competitive rates, flexible return flights, and travel insurance for students. Please visit them at www.studentuniverse.com/teflcourse for more information.
How long can I stay in France with just a passport?
If you are a US citizen you will need to secure contracted employment in order to be eligible to apply for a proper work visa. You are not eligible to apply for a visa before leaving the States- you must have contracted employment first. It is difficult to get a legal work contract from a language school in France as schools who hire non-EU citizens will do so without going through the proper legal procedures. If you are a citizen of an EU country, you are permitted to work anywhere in the EU, so this is not so much of an issue for you.
What will TEFL International do to help me secure employment?
Our knowledgeable staff is available to assist you in resume preparation, interview consultation, and application procedures. Course graduates are also given lifetime access to our extensive database of job openings with contact information and details of institutions all over the world.
What's the climate like?
Summers are usually very hot and dry. Spring and fall are magnificent with cool breezes and sunny skies. Winters can be cold and damp. If you are coming in the winter months (November - March) bring plenty of sweaters, pants/trousers, warm pajamas, a winter coat, gloves, scarves, etc.
