Though not as well known as other Spanish cities such as Barcelona or Madrid, Seville is a pearl of the south, situated along the southern coast of Spain. The culture is rich and varied with a unique north African influence, while maintaining the beauty and antiquity of a European cosmopolitan city.

With gothic cathedrals, medieval streets and architectural influences, and some of the best food and nightlife in Europe, this sophisticated city is sure to please. The extensive gardens of the Palace of San Telmo are like no other and the city's Cathedral is the third largest church in Christendom.

Seville has much to offer all travelers with a diversity of art and architecture, food and wine, and some of the most exciting, unique festivals on the continent. The festival of Semana Santa depicts the Passion of Christ, first created for a medieval audience and still staged today. Huge wooden statues of saints are carried in a procession. At the head are the Nazarenos, men wearing long black medieval gowns with hoods, and behind them are Penitents, carrying crosses on their shoulders, followed by the Costaleros carrying the saints. These men are members of the Cofradia, an ancient brotherhood dedicated to keeping this ritual alive. It is a sight to behold.

The second most important festival the Feira de Abril takes place two weeks later. The ladies of Seville turn out in their finest and most colorful Flamenco dresses. Casetas, provisional houses are decorated with colorful lamps. In the morning landowners arrive on horseback or in coaches. In the afternoon, the great party of Flamenco begins. Jerez (Sherry) is consumed with zest into the night. This is a weeklong party and people come from all over the world to take part. During this time the most important bullfights are held. One can almost glimpse a bereted Hemmingway enthusiastically partaking with relish in these festivities. Seville is that rare place where the past and present meet.

With tapas and gazpacho on every corner and a wide variety of drink, including of course Sangria and many tasty beers and spirits, the food and beverage options are second to none in the Mediterranean. Seville is the spiritual home of the Flamenco with clubs presenting performances all over the city. Another area to explore is the Triana district across the river from Santa Cruz. It has many outside restaurants and bars. Its unusual to find a public square that is not filled with diners or partygoers.

Course Location

Seville is the Capital and largest city of the historical and culturally diverse Andalusia region. The Beaches of Costa del Sol are three hours away by train while the beaches of Portugal are within four hours by bus. Seville is also in close proximity to the Straits of Gibraltar, Morocco and all of Northern Africa. The city is a convenient hub that connects to all points of Europe by train or air.

Our Course is located central to all major Seville landmarks and within close proximity to various modes of public transportation. The TEFL International School is located in the University district of El Porvenir, adjacent to the beautiful Maria Luisa Park, filled with its historical monuments, museums, and ecological delights. The course is administered in a modern building fully equipped with classrooms, computers, Internet, air conditioning, and various other resources, along a street with many cafes, restaurants and other shops.

Course Fees

The cost of the course is $500 (submitted as a deposit to reserve your place in the training) plus a final payment of 920 Euro. The deposit will count toward the overall course fee (approximately $1900). Accommodations begin at 250 Euro per month.

Accommodations

TEFL International is able to provide comfortable, well-equipped accommodation for teacher trainees at very competitive rates. Accommodation in Seville typically consists of a private room in a Spanish-style, 3 to 4 bedroom apartment, shared with fellow trainees. Each apartment offers a full bathroom, well-equipped kitchen with refrigerator, laundry facilities and a comfortable living room. Shared rooms may also be available, but in limited numbers so please don't hesitate to inquire about availability once you've enrolled if this is your desired accommodations.

All apartments are located within very easy access to the school facility, as well as the city center, major tourist sites and the best shopping areas! As well, all apartments are within walking distance to various restaurants, bars and cafes, and basic services such as grocery stores and banks.
